Brash. Outspoken. Talented. Unapologetically and unashamedly Midas. Since transforming the concept of what hip-hop in Australia could sound like with booming trap anthem and breakout single “000000” in late 2015, Midas.Gold has become a staple in the culture.
Born on the west coast of of the United States with strong family ties in South Central L.A, the now-Brisbane based artist has gone from strength to strength, accruing a string of industry accolades and international recognition. From viral charting songs on Spotify to anointment from urban tastemakers Highsnobiety, the richly talented emcee has well over a million online streams and video views under his belt and an impressive live resume to go with them.
Having previously supported names including Danny Brown, The Underachievers and Tkay Maidza, Midas.Gold was one of a small group of Australian acts selected on the inaugural JVMANJI Festival line-up in 2018 alongside hip-hop icons Lil Wayne, Metro Boomin and Wale – a performance praised by live music stalwart What’s Lively. Midas’ versatility was on display to new listeners across commercial radio in mid-2018 as “Call The 5-0” a collaboration with Tigerilla, and the second single off electronic producer Paces acclaimed album “ZAG” gathered steam – followed up by an eye-catching performance at Snowtunes Festival.
Labelled the “baddest man in the game” by Triple J Unearthed Music Director Dave Ruby-Howe, Midas.Gold has won support from influencers and platforms ranging from MTV & Rage to Apple Music & Red Bull Music Academy. The recent summer was lit up by dancefloor anthem “Passions.”a Beats 1 Radio supported single which fused elements of UK garage with Midas’ rapid fire flow and was named in several end-of-year lists including Amazon Music’s “Best 100 songs of 2018” , The AU Review’s “40 Best Hip-Hop / R&B Songs of 2018” as well as being shortlisted for the Triple J Hottest 100 poll.
